I started off this week not knowing McCain's story. Now I know every single detail because it's been the focal point of every single speech. I admire the man for his courage and character, but this is getting ridiculous.

Can someone tell me why the crowd started chanting "USA, USA" after McCain talked about the struggles of paying the mortgage and gas bills? Actually, they chanted "USA USA" after almost everything McCain said during his "Country First" spiel. Are there signs that tell them what to say?

It's so interesting to see the rhetoric and production that goes into all of these conventions. I'm sure they were prevalent in the DNC too, but somehow the scripted nature of this week seems so much more obtuse and offensive to my intellect. (I heard on NPR that the signs that look homemade are mass produced to look like that...how deceiving.)

OMG

National_Geographic_Jen

Vote for me. :)

http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/photo-contest/voting-machine

Go to Week One to vote for me. You have to vote for 40 other pictures before you get to mine, unfortunately. :(

My sister says that you shouldn't be shy to give me a 10 and everyone else a 1. Tell your friends! C'mon viral marketing!

p.s. Sorry, the website isn't the easiest to navigate.

Initially, I had no interest in watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics. I sort of wanted to boycott watching it so that I could hold onto my biases against the Chinese for the way they treat their citizens.

But you know what? As I am watching this, I am in awe of the ingenuity and creativity of the Chinese. I am moved by the richness of this history and culture that I (if I so choose) am able to call my own. I am encouraged by the artistry that a country still holds onto even after the Cultural Revolution.

p.s. I think it's kind of interesting that the stars of this opening ceremony (so far) are the people of China...really the greatest treasure that the country holds. If only they would value them on a day-to-day basis as they are doing here.

Hello, did I lend anyone Season One of Arrested Development? I can't find my DVDs anywhere. D:

I wanted to take more pictures so I woke my sister up from her afternoon nap and forced her to be emotional in an indie sort of way amidst the neighborhood wilderness.
